Milford Track – The Best Of New Zealand Hiking Tracks And Destinations
The South Island Of New Zealand has always been known for its beautiful landscapes, but until you’ve experienced it for yourself, it is truly impossible to share and describe the sounds, scents, breathtaking vistas, and the freshness of the New Zealand air!
I’ve experienced New Zealand first hand, and as a recent visitor put it “The unimaginable beauty of this country has to be experienced to be believed. From the West Coast beaches to the Southern Alps, the awesome Milford Track and the mighty Mt. Cook, there are no words to capture the experience”.
New Zealand offers so many options from hiking to cruising the magnificent sounds or taking in the sights of the Fox Glacier making its way like a sleepy giant down to the rugged beaches of the West Coast.
New Zealand is still a pristine wilderness for visitors to enjoy with good Kiwi hospitality that’s hard to beat anywhere!
Milford Track New Zealand treks/hikes offer a complete immersion in the landscapes of southern New Zealand. From rocky streams and rivers framed by picturesque snow-topped mountain ranges, to untouched forest, the Milford Track is a sensory masterpiece!
Fresh air, spectacular scenery and good Kiwi hospitality are just the beginning!
If you come to Fiordland, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the delightful kea, a cheeky native New Zealand parrot, whose favorite pastime is plucking the rubber from your flip flops (jandals as Kiwis call them), or nibbling the shoelaces of your randomly placed boots while you’re enjoying a wine. As I discovered, these birds are not at all shy!
The Milford Track experience can be enjoyed by people of all ages and fitness levels. The best way to see New Zealand is with experienced guides who offer anything from day hikes, to multi day trek options.
West Coast Beaches
The West Coast beaches are characterised by their black sand, and the natural flax dotted amongst the dunes. The Maori have been weaving flax for generations into kete (woven hand bags).
Dramatic cliff faces carved out by sea winds and storms add to the long list of things to take in along the wild West Coast beaches. Breathe in the salt air while walking along the windswept sand.
Ancient Beech Forests of New Zealand
In New Zealand you can walk through virgin beech forest, touch trees covered with lichen and other indigenous plants. The volume and variety of plant life is staggering. New Zealand is home to some of the last untouched areas of pure virgin forest on Earth – and we are committed to conserving them.
In between the fabulous forests and walks, you can also take in the grandeur of the Southern Alps’ Franz Josef, and Fox Glaciers, creaking their way down the icy slopes towards the West Coast.
These are just a few of the experiences to be had when visiting this magnificent region in the land of the long white cloud – Aotearoa!
When coming to New Zealand you’ll want to know you’re getting the full Kiwi experience and the absolute best of this beautiful country.
Kiwis are so friendly and helpful – we love taking care of visitors. Choosing the right company to travel with really makes the difference between a great vacation and the adventure of a lifetime.
An experienced company that knows all the ins and outs of dealing with all age groups and fitness levels makes your experience one that’s perfect for you. And travelling with guides who are Kiwis is the only true way to get the whole Kiwi experience!
Personally, I’ve met some amazing people and made wonderful friends on my New Zealand adventures, including guides and fellow travellers. People have become a big part of my memories, and friends from home too, friends who have wanted to come share in our adventures!
If you love taking photographs you’ll want a big memory card, I guarantee you’ll need it! I needed two.
The accommodation – wow! Some of the most memorable guided treks I’ve been on were topped off with stays in gorgeous quaint lodges nestled in wilderness areas. Speaking from experience, after a long day you’ll really want to relax and take in all you’ve seen, felt and absorbed with your senses with a comfortable bed and great food! The food is outstanding and tastes so much better after a hard day’s walking and exploring.
Where to start
There are so many choices, and things to see in New Zealand. I would start with Milford Sound, and I know that once you’ve had the New Zealand experience you’ll be desperate to see more of this amazing country.
New Zealand travel is the ultimate experience to invigorate your body, mind and spirit. If you want to be moved and feel alive again visit New Zealand, you’ll be amazed at what you’ve been missing!
Where do I start?! New Zealand had been number one on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, and it didn’t disappoint. Don’t wait another moment, if New Zealand is the dream, find a way! The ‘Manuka’ trip was beyond any expectations I could have dreamed of! Yes it was physical, but our amazing guides Claire and Jess kept me going and the accomplishment and the views were always worth it. I have memories that will last a lifetime, best money I have EVER spent. Trust me, don’t wait! Go!
